Contact Information [email protected] Course Information (syllabi, monthly assignment calendars, project info, etc.) Course Description The successful Spanish 2 student will be able to discuss familiar topics, seek/give information in written and spoken format, distinguish between present, past and future time in limited situations, compare various aspects of culture/language structure, and make use of appropriate reference materials. Course Outline -Study of Spanish grammar and verb tense including the present, preterite and the imperative. -Reading selections in Spanish with vocabulary study. -Speaking and listening, including question-answer practice, prepared dialogues/presentations, and partner/group activities. -Writing - including homework assignments and dialogues. -Cultural videos/DVD’s accompanied by discussions, comprehension checks or written assignments. -Geography – learning locations and capitals of Spanish speaking countries. -Projects – class presentations, artistic creations, etc. -One quiz every Friday. Pop quizzes upon my discretion. -One chapter test at the end of every chapter. -Final Exam (cumulative) at the end of each semester. Course Text Realidades 2 supplemented by workbooks and other resource materials. Required Materials and Supplies: Due in class daily: Covered textbook, workbook, folder or binder, pens and pencils. A pen is required for quizzes and tests. Absences/Assignments/Exams and Quizzes
Attendance and punctuality are vital to your academic success. No late work/makeup will be accepted unless you have an excused absence. All assignments due during your absence will be due open your return. It is yourresponsibility to check your monthly assignment calendar and complete any work on schedule, and to contact classmates for details, if necessary. It is also your responsibility to request to make up missed tests and quizzes upon your return to class.
Group presentations must be done on the day assigned, regardless of whether or not all group members are present.
Written homework or study assignments will be given daily. Sometimes the assignment will be to work on a project. Students are expected to use the allotted time wisely.
Homework is due upon entering class the following day. COPYING homework is cheating and will result in grade of zero for all parties involved.
Students have one day for each day of an excused absence to make up their tests/quizzes.
Using or looking at a cellphone during a test or quiz will result in a grade of zero.
Students must be present for the final exam. Notify the teacher if you will be absent on the day of the final so that alternative arrangements can be made. If not, you will receive a zero on the final project.
Classroom Rules/Behavior:
Be prompt. Before the bell rings, you are to be seated.
Be prepared. Students are expected to bring all the materials required every day.
Students and teacher are to be treated with courtesy and respect at all times.
Keep the classroom clean. Your desk and area around you must be clean. No eating or drinking in the classroom (exception: bottled water).
Cell phones, CD Players/MP3/Ipods, ARE NOT PERMITTED IN CLASS!!!
If you have one, turn it off. Otherwise, it will be confiscated (school policy). Disciplinary Actions:
Verbal warning in class.
Personal conference with the student.
Parent contact
Conference with parent and student.
Continued or severe discipline problems - Referral to the Dean’s office.
